Radon Testing, Heavy Metal Testing, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) Testing, Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, and Carbon Monoxide & Carbon Dioxide Testing

Radon Testing

Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates. And overall, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year; about 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked. Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. You cannot see, smell or taste radon, but it may be a problem in your home or commercial building. If you smoke AND the building where you spend most of your time has high radon levels, you're at high risk for developing lung cancer.

Heavy Metal Testing

Heavy Metals poisoning can occur from exposure to various substances and chemicals used in industrial settings. Heavy Metals testing is useful for people who work in industries where exposure to hazardous materials is a risk, or even to check for environmental exposure. Identifying unhealthy levels of Heavy Metals in the blood or urine can help a person work with their doctor to avoid serious health complications.

The EPA has set maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for metals including arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, copper, mercury, selenium, nickel, thallium, antimony, and beryllium. This means that public water supplies are monitored for these metals regularly. But private systems are not monitored, so your private water supply could in fact contain heavy metals.

Volatile Organic Compound Testing

Examples of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are gasoline, benzene, formaldehyde, solvents such as toluene and xylene, styrene, and perchloroethylene (or tetrachloroethylene), the main solvent used in dry cleaning.

Volatile Organic Compounds are present in all natural and synthetic materials and can exist not only as liquids and solids but also as vapors, and are therefore a significant consideration in contamination of air, food and water.

VOCs are measured by collecting samples and submitting for analysis in a laboratory to ensure that nothing harmful or toxic is present.

Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide Testing

Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) are often mistaken for one another. Both gases are odorless and colorless and target the cardiovascular system. Both gases can enter the body through inhalation, skin, and eyes. Similar symptoms that both gases have in common are headaches, dizziness, seizures and hallucinations.

Most people have a hard time determining the difference and do not realize that vehicle exhaust emits both CO and CO2. In an indoor environment, this build-up of gas can be hazardous to the health and safety of the individual exposed to it.

CO has been referred to as the "Silent Killer". Once CO is inhaled, oxygen levels are displaced in the blood causing vital organs to starve, and causing the person to suffocate and lose consciousness.

CO2 exposure is referred to as "Hypercarbia" or "Hypercapnia" (Carbon Dioxide Poisoning). Since our blood expels CO2, inhaling too much CO2 can make the body unable to expel the gas.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment

A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment is the standard for evaluating the environmental liability associated with a building of any type. Whether the property is industrial or commercial, we can test your property for any and all contaminants. Our Phase I Environmental Site Assessments are done by our environmental professionals, who meet the requirements of the EPA's Standard.
